Susan Boyle Auditions For A Talent Show In 1995

daily recordBritain’s Got Talent wasn’t the first time Susan Boyle auditioned for a talent show it seems.

The Daily Record unearthed a home video shot of Susan Boyle auditioning for Michael Barrymore’s My Kind of People back in 1995.  The audtion was held at the Olympia Shopping Centre in East Kilbride, and was caught on camcorder by the 18-year-old daughter of one of the other contestants.  Michael Barrymore, a well-known comedian in the UK, mocked Ms. Boyle as she performed, and even attempted to look up her skirt as she sang.  To Ms. Boyle’s credit, she kept on going without missing a note of the song.

Tom Bergeron Offers Advice To Susan Boyle

tom bergeronIt seems everyone has some advice for Susan Boyle, including television hosts.

Tom Bergeron, the host of Dancing With the Stars in the United States, had an editorial in today’s the New York Times about how Susan Boyle, as he puts it, needs to “run away.”  The reason for this is that he fears the inevitable backlash, which I have to agree with him has already started, where the people who were enthralled with her will begin to turn on her.

The kind of love she’s getting isn’t a tenth as genuine as her pussycat’s purr (and even Pebbles is mostly angling to get fed). We saw the eye-rolling in the audience moments before she performed. We heard the derisive wolf whistle. And then she sang, and the humbled audience sprang to their feet in sudden adoration.

[...]

Ms. Boyle’s experience seems to suggest that people are willing to overcome their prejudices and see the world anew. But those same people can turn back into snarky snobs just as easily. Some already have. Post goose-bumped pundits are speculating about a deliberate charade to increase ratings.

I have to agree with Mr. Bergeron, and I hope she is surrounded by good, loving, people who have known her from long before this fame came into her life.  I’m not sure running away from it is the best solution, but just keeping her head on straight should help with a lot of the issues.

Susan Boyle Dyes Her Hair Brown

today show logoIt appears Susan Boyle has now dyed her hair.

Today on Today, Hoda Kotb and Mario Lopez discussed just released photos of Susan Boyle that shows she has dyed her hair a deep brown.  Add this to the eyebrow makeover from the other day, and you wonder how much further she will take the change to her looks.  So far they aren’t too radical, and she does look better, but hopefully she won’t do anything too crazy in the near future.

Susan Boyle Sings “I Don’t Know How To Love Him”

jesus christ superstar logoIt seems that Susan Boyle’s family is now digging through the home movies to see what they can find!

Mirror.co.uk has come into possession of a home movie shot 23 years ago of Ms. Boyle (then age 25) singing “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” from Jesus Christ Superstar at her parents 50th wedding anniversary. While the video image is a bit grainy, the audio is surprisingly clear, and only drops a bit in one section.

What I find interesting is the silence in the room.  Gerry Boyle, Susan’s older brother is quoted in the article as saying:

It was a very emotional night. It goes quiet when Susan sings, it always does. She always has that effect.

So it seems she’s alwas had the ability to make people listen up when she sings.  Good to know!

Susan Boyle On The Road To A Make Over

susan boyle browsIt appears the urge to make over Susan Boyle’s appearance is just not letting up.

While the subject of cleaning up Susan Boyle’s looks has come up in many interviews, pretty much every one, even Britain’s Got Talent Judge Amanda Holden, thought it was a bad idea at this time.  Well, either someone gave her the greenlight, or maybe she just decided to do it herself, but as you can clearly see in the picture to the right, Ms. Boyle is slowly transforming.  The hair is looking a bit more kept, the eyebrows have clearly been plucked and the clothes are looking a bit snappier.

I’m not sure how people should feel about this.  Part of the charm of Ms. Boyle was that she was such an everyday person, and while these changes aren’t radical, you have to wonder where they will end.  If this is the end of it, than fine, we can probably live with it, but any further than this and it’s going to feel like too much I think.

Susan Boyle Says The “Never Been Kissed” Comment Was A Joke

gmtv logoGMTV (Good Morning Television) interviewed Susan Boyle this morning, and while most of it was rehashes of other interviews, one new tidbit came out.

I do definitely prefer the UK interviews of Ms. Boyle to the American ones, I think mainly becuase they can actually do them in person as opposed to being via satellite.  This morning it was GMTV’s turn, and we learned that the local council has built a new fence in front of her home to help keep the press away.  We also heard her singing a bit of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”, which was nice, but the big moment came when she was asked about her comment on Britain’s Got Talent about having never been kissed.  She now says it was a joke, but yu can judge for yourself.

Susan Boyle Sings “Killing Me Softly”

telegraphA second song that Susan Boyle recorded in 1999 has surfaced!

Telegraph.co.uk has come into possession of a recording that Susan Boyle made in 1999 of the 1973 hit song “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack.  It seems Ms. Boyle made the recording at her own expense to attempt to get on various television and radio talent shows, all of which she was not accepted to.  At the time she made the recording she told her friends that she had spent all of her savings on recording thsi song and an earlier demo version of what would become her “Cry Me A River” release on a charity CD.

Personally I don’t think this song fits her as well as the others, but it is still enjoyable.

Oprah Wants Susan Boyle On Her Show

oprah winfrey and susan boyleNot all that surprisingly, it appears that Oprah Winfrey wants Susan Boyle on her show at some point in the future.

According to Marc Malkin at E!, Oprah’s producers have expressed interest in Ms. Boyle appearing on the show in Chicago, but the people at Britain’s Got Talent have said that sort of thing won’t be happening until the show is over.  Seeing as she was on the first audition episode of the series, she has another six weeks to go before she appears on the live semi-finals episode.

At this point, even if she doesn’t win the series, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Ms. Boyle is still going to have some form of career ahead of her just on the back of her Internet popularity.  Will Oprah still want her on the show if that is what happens?  I think it’s pretty safe to assume that she will indeed.

Stay tuned for more details.

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Does A Sketch About Susan Boyle

Late Night With Jimmy FallonI think we can officially say Susan Boyle has hit the mainstream consensuses when late night talk show hosts are building whole sketches around her.

Last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, they did a sketch built around the premise that every one in the office was angry about something, or something horrible had just happened in their life. As everyone in the office has their life falling apart, one member of the staff is in the conference room and pulls up the video of Susan Boyle singing “I Dreamed A Dream”. As Jimmy storms down the hallway in anger, he hears the song, and it stops him dead in his tracks. He goes back to the room, and he is instantly mesmerized by the song, and forgets all of his troubles.

As the song progresses, more and more staff come into the room, ready to complain about this or that, but as soon as they hear Susan singing, they forget all of their worries. My favorite person coming in has to be the soldier, but I won’t say what he came in to report as I don’t want to ruin it for you. Overall it’s a very cute video, and I’m not even a Jimmy Fallon fan!

Sadly this video won’t play outside of the United States. Sorry, folks!

Susan Boyle Sings “My Heart Will Go On” On Larry King Live

susan boyleLast night Susan Boyle appeared on Larry King Live and wowed us with yet another song.

The tour of US talk shows seems never ending for Ms. Boyle right now, but at least she gets to do all of them from the comfort of her own home!  This time around it was on Larry King Live, and they also brought on Britain’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan to talk about her at the same time.

Some of the stuff with Piers was fascinating, such as him actually apologizing for not treating her with more respect when she first came out on the stage.  It seemed very sincere and heartfelt.  He explained that they had already had a long day with some really horrible acts, and he admitted that he thought she was going to be one of the joke acts that gets sent out to them just to make them suffer.  It was a very sincere, and genuine sounding apology, which Ms. Boyle gladly accepted.  He also asked her out for dinner in London, to which she rather enthusiastically said “yes” to.

There are also some hints from Mr. Morgan that Simon Cowell has indeed signed Ms. Boyle to his record label, though he never spells it out completely.

The only thing about the interview that troubled me some was when Larry King asked what in her life would change due to this, she replied that she would no longer be lonely.  I really, really hope she has some solid, grounded friends around her that will help make sure no one takes advantage of her and her considerable talent.

We have posted both halves of the interview below for you, but if you just want to get to her singing “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic, it is in the second video at approximately the 2:25 mark.
